The Kecskem\u00e9t Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1966 by musicians and music teachers from Kecskem\u00e9t and the surrounding area, on the initiative of conductor Lajos Nemesszeghy and oboe teacher J\u00e1nos Luk\u00e1cs, orchestra secretary. As the resident orchestra of the H\u00edr\u00f6s Ag\u00f3ra cultural center<\/a>, it is the only symphonic ensemble in B\u00e1cs-Kiskun County, and the orchestra plays an important role in the cultural life of Kecskem\u00e9t and the region, as well as in nurturing Kod\u00e1ly’s musical traditions. The ensemble is a regular and popular participant of the festivals and events of the city, and distinguished performer of the symphonic works of Zolt\u00e1n Kod\u00e1ly. From August 2022, the orchestra\u2019s new artistic director is Huba Holl\u00f3k\u0151i.<\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

Several internationally renowned conductors have already worked with the orchestra, including Ken Ichiro Kobayashi, \u00c1d\u00e1m Medveczky, M\u00e1ty\u00e1s Antal, P\u00e9ter Erdei, Tam\u00e1s V\u00e1s\u00e1ry, as well as world-class soloists, such as Annie Fischer, Andrea Rost, Vikt\u00f3ria Vizin, Erika Mikl\u00f3sa, Gy\u00f6ry Pauk, Sergei Nakariakov, Bal\u00e1zs F\u00fclei, Gergely Bog\u00e1nyi, Denis Matsuev and Zolt\u00e1n Kocsis. The Hungarian National Choir and the Kod\u00e1ly Choir of Debrecen are regular partners of the ensemble. The orchestra works in close collaboration with the Kod\u00e1ly Institute of the Liszt Ferenc University of Music.<\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

In addition to classical, symphonic and opera repertoire, the orchestra is successful in many other genres. It has given several concerts with the Cs\u00edk Band, and performed with Adrien Szekeres, Katica Ill\u00e9nyi, the S\u00e1rik Jazz Trio, the animated film artist Ferenc Cak\u00f3, as well as the Kecskem\u00e9t City Ballet and the Kecskem\u00e9t Folk Dance Ensemble. The orchestra\u2019s annual film music concert held at the H\u00edr\u00f6s Festival attracts thousands of audiences to the main square of Kecskem\u00e9t.<\/p>\n\n

The Kecskem\u00e9t Symphony Orchestra places great emphasis on nurturing musical talent of the young generation and promoting classical music for new audiences. The orchestra frequently performs with the outstandingly talented instrumental students of the Kod\u00e1ly School, providing an important boost in their careers. Launched in 2016, the \u201cThe Family is Listening\u201d concert series have by now made hundreds of toddlers, parents and grandparents familiar with classical music.<\/p>\n\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

Over the years, fruitful partnerships have developed with many of Kecskem\u00e9t’s sister cities. In 2006, the ensemble gave a concert in Hyvink\u00e4\u00e4, Finland, in 2016 in T\u00e2rgu Mure\u015f, and in 2017, in honour of the Kod\u00e1ly Year, in Galanta. In 2018, the orchestra presented the works of \u00c1rp\u00e1d Solti in Subotica.
The Kecskem\u00e9t Symphony Orchestra has already released two albums, with Hungarian and Hungarian-related works from Ferenc Farkas, J\u00e1nos Vajda and P\u00e1l Kadosa and the Concerto by Zolt\u00e1n Kod\u00e1ly. The orchestra also starred in two films: \u201cCopying Beethoven\u201d and \u201cKincsem\u201d.<\/p>\n\n
